The Edo State Government has indefinitely postponed the resumption of all schools across the state, citing the recent surge in fuel prices as the primary reason.
This announcement was made through a memo issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe, in Benin on Saturday.
The initial resumption date for both public and private schools, which was set for September 9, has now been delayed until further notice.
“The Edo State Government hereby announces the postponement of the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo State, originally scheduled for Monday, 9th September 2024, until further notice,” the statement read.
The government attributed the decision to the tension stemming from the recent hike in fuel prices, acknowledging the challenges this poses for parents and guardians.
“We urge parents, guardians, and caregivers to closely monitor their children and wards during this period, as the situation around the fuel price increase continues to unfold,” Akin-Longe added.
