President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has formally inducted 462 cadets from the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, into the Nigeria Police Force. These cadets, who have completed five years of intense academic and professional training, have been commissioned as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the ceremonial Passing Out Parade (POP) took place on September 7, 2024, at the academy’s parade ground, and was graced by dignitaries from across the country.
The graduating cadets underwent a comprehensive program that challenged them both physically and intellectually. The curriculum was designed to prepare them for the demands of modern policing in a democratic Nigeria, instilling in them professionalism, discipline, and a deep respect for the rule of law.
Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, expressed confidence in the capabilities of the newly commissioned officers. He urged them to uphold integrity, professionalism, and human rights in the discharge of their duties. Shettima also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and ensuring the welfare of its officers. He highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the nation’s security architecture and expressed optimism that the new ASPs would play a vital role in enhancing police effectiveness.
The event was attended by a wide array of dignitaries, including state governors, National Assembly members, federal and state executive officials, leaders of military and paramilitary organizations, senior police officers—both serving and retired—traditional rulers, and the cadets’ families and friends.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, praised President Tinubu for his support in the ongoing reforms aimed at transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a more capable and efficient institution. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, CON, and the Police Service Commission for their continued support.
The IGP commended the graduating cadets for their dedication, discipline, and hard work throughout their five-year training. He emphasized that their training was a blend of academic education and practical police work, which has equipped them to effectively serve and protect Nigeria’s citizens. The IGP also stressed the importance of discipline, noting that the foundation of successful policing lies in strong character, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty.
