Amnesty International Condemns DSS Raid on SERAP’s Office as Overreach

Amnesty International has condemned President Bola Tinubu for the “unlawful” raid of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) office by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

On Monday, SERAP alerted the public through its X (formerly Twitter) handle, reporting that DSS officers had occupied its office in Abuja. In response, SERAP called on the president to take immediate action, stating, “President Tinubu must immediately direct the DSS to end the harassment, intimidation, and attacks on the rights of Nigerians.”

Amnesty International, reacting to the raid in a post on X, expressed deep concern over the administration’s actions. The organization said the president’s approach was excessive and aimed at stifling dissent. “We received a disturbing report of the unlawful invasion of SERAP’s Abuja office by DSS operatives. President Bola Tinubu is going too far in his government’s repressive efforts to silence dissenting voices,” the post read.

The raid has sparked widespread criticism, with calls for an end to the perceived crackdown on civil society and human rights groups in Nigeria.
