JUST IN: FG Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for 12 States, Advises Residents to Prepare

The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has issued a forecast predicting heavy rainfall in twelve states over the coming week.

According to NiMet’s weekly weather report, valid from September 10 to 16, specific moisture and wind patterns are expected to contribute to significant downpours in several regions.

The states anticipated to experience heavy rainfall include Bauchi, Niger, Bayelsa, Kaduna, Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Rivers, and Delta.

Additionally, the report highlighted that moderate to heavy rainfalls are expected in Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Kwara, Benue, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states.

Moderate rainfall is forecasted for Enugu and Kebbi, while lighter rains are predicted in Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, and Sokoto states.

NiMet has cautioned that the heavy rains could lead to flash floods, particularly on roads, bridges, and low-lying areas, which may disrupt traffic. The agency also advised the public to exercise caution and avoid walking through fast-moving water during this period to ensure safety.
