The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved a supplementary budget of ₦119 billion, which will be presented to the state House of Assembly for approval. This decision was made during the council’s meeting on Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Balarabe Kadadi, informed journalists that the supplementary budget includes funds from several key inflows, including NG-CARES, L-Press, Agile, Palliative funds from local governments, ecological funds, and excess crude oil revenue.
He explained that a significant portion of the budget, ₦17.9 billion, has been earmarked for the reconstruction of major roads within the state. Specifically, ₦11.8 billion will be allocated for the reconstruction of the 40.7-kilometre Illela-Gada road, while ₦3.2 billion is set aside for the Wurno-Huchi road project.
In addition to these road projects, the council approved ₦2.9 billion for the construction of the Romo Bridge. According to the State Commissioner for Information, Bello Dabchadi, these infrastructural developments are part of the promises made by the governor during his tour of local governments and are vital for the state’s economic growth.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Maihula, announced that ₦156.7 million has been approved for the rehabilitation of the oldest Islamiyya school in Sokoto State, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure.
The supplementary budget, which addresses both infrastructure and social welfare, will be presented to the state House of Assembly for final approval.
