In a decisive intelligence-led operation on September 12, troops of the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) successfully neutralized Kachallah Buzu, a notorious bandit leader, along with several of his fighters in Zamfara State.
According to reliable reports, the operation took place in the Mayanchi forest located in the Maru Local Government Area, a region long plagued by banditry. The collaboration between the Nigerian Armed Forces under OPHD and local intelligence efforts led to a deadly confrontation with Buzu’s group, culminating in the elimination of the insurgents.
The strike against Kachallah Buzu is part of a broader military campaign aimed at dismantling bandit networks that have wreaked havoc across the northwest region of Nigeria. On the day of the operation, soldiers engaged the heavily armed group, seizing 30 motorcycles used by the bandits for their operations, as well as an array of heavy weaponry.
The soldiers have been engaged in intense combat with the bandits from approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday until around 6 a.m. on Friday. After hours of fierce fighting, the troops successfully neutralized the bandits, bringing an end to the violent confrontation.
According to reports, the bandits come out from the Moriki area in the Zurmi Local Government Area and were en route to Anka Local Government. This region has been a hotspot for banditry and criminal activity, with several groups exploiting its remoteness for their operations.
Among the key figures in this conflict is the notorious commanders of this terrorist Kachalla, known to be the mentor of Bello Turji, another infamous criminal. Turji is heavily involved in the terrorist activities and facilitating the arming of various bandit groups that continue to terrorize the area. Both Kachalla and Turji play pivotal roles in sustaining the violence and lawlessness that have plagued the region for years, making them central targets in the government’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and security.
A video released by Sahara Reporters showcased the aftermath of the military success, displaying the seized assets and underscoring the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring security in the region.
The death of Kachallah Buzu marks a significant victory for the Nigerian military in its ongoing battle against insurgency and banditry, a challenge that has deeply affected communities across northern Nigeria.
