NAF Eliminates Over 28 Bandits in Niger Airstrikes

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as part of Operation Whirl Punch, has successfully neutralized over 28 bandits in a series of airstrikes in Bassa, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

This development was disclosed in a statement by NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Capt. Kabiru Ali, on Thursday in Abuja. According to the statement, the airstrikes were aimed at neutralizing terrorists who have been terrorizing local communities in the area.

The operation, which took place on September 11, was launched following a request for air support from ground forces engaged in combat with the terrorists. NAF air assets identified more than 100 heavily armed terrorists engaged in a fierce battle with friendly troops.

“After confirming the positions of our troops, NAF carried out precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ locations,” Capt. Ali said. “The strikes were highly effective, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in successive passes.”

As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered, with more terrorists and their equipment—including weapons and motorcycles—being cleared from the area.

Capt. Ali emphasized that this successful operation highlights the NAF’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the country and supporting other security agencies in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality.

“Nigerians can rest assured that the NAF will continue to conduct air operations, both independently and in coordination with ground forces, to ensure the safety and security of the nation,” he added.
