The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. Contrary to earlier claims from the former governor that he had voluntarily turned himself in, reliable sources at the commission confirmed that Bello was trailed and apprehended by EFCC operatives in Lokoja during the late-night operation.
Bello, who had been evading court appearances since April 2024, is currently being held at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. He faces a serious 19-count charge, primarily involving allegations of money laundering amounting to N80 billion. Sources familiar with the case indicated that the commission had been monitoring his movements for some time before carrying out the midnight arrest.
The former governor’s legal troubles date back to April when the EFCC officially filed charges against him at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Despite multiple summons, Bello failed to appear in court to take his plea, raising suspicions of his intent to evade justice.
