Kano: Governor Yusuf Pledges to Build New Homes for Flood Victims

The Kano State government has unveiled plans to construct new homes for individuals displaced by recent flooding. This initiative was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by Sunusi Bataure, the media aide to Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

Governor Kabir-Yusuf made the commitment during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday. He emphasized that the project aims to alleviate the impact of flooding on the affected communities by providing them with secure and adequate housing.

As part of broader relief efforts, the governor revealed that Kano State is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to provide essential supplies, including food, to those displaced by the floods.

In addition to housing support, the government is also focusing on improving educational infrastructure. Governor Kabir-Yusuf announced plans to distribute chairs and desks to 220,000 students in basic and post-basic schools during the first phase of an ongoing educational program.

Expressing satisfaction with the smooth resumption of the 2024/2025 academic session, the governor assured the public that his administration is committed to rehabilitating schools across Kano. He also reiterated his pledge to provide free uniforms to all Primary One pupils, as part of the state’s declared emergency on education.

Governor Kabir-Yusuf called on stakeholders to collaborate in advancing the state’s educational objectives, highlighting the importance of working together to meet the needs of Kano’s students and citizens.
