Gov Lawal to Matawalle: Resign and Face Allegations Against You

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has challenged his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, to resign from his current position as Minister of State for Defence and confront the allegations against him during his tenure as governor.

Matawalle has faced accusations, including alleged links to bandits, a charge he has consistently denied.

Speaking during an interview on TVC Wednesday night, Governor Lawal questioned Matawalle’s integrity and urged him to step down voluntarily. He cited an incident where ransom payments for the kidnapped children of a state permanent secretary were reportedly made through the government house under Matawalle’s administration.

“If I were him, I would resign and face the allegations head-on,” Lawal stated. “It’s disgraceful that the government house was allegedly used to facilitate ransom payments, and there are claims that bandits were even harbored there.”

Lawal added, “The honourable thing to do would be to step aside, clear his name, and only then return to public service. How can someone facing such serious allegations still hold the position of Minister of Defence?”
