The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has suspended Jamilu Ibrahim, a Court Registrar from the Shari’a Court Department, along with other individuals involved in a fraudulent land deal. The group was found to have illegally obtained a writ of possession, facilitating the sale of two plots of land.
This was disclosed in a statement by Kano Judiciary spokesman, Jibo Ibrahim, made available to the media on Friday. He stated that the Commission reached the decision during its 75th meeting held on September 12, 2024.
Following an investigation by a committee set up by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to probe the allegations, it was revealed that Ibrahim, along with his accomplices, was responsible for the fraudulent activities. The committee recommended Ibrahim’s dismissal from service. However, the JSC opted to suspend him indefinitely without pay, pending the outcome of his ongoing trial before a Magistrate Court.
Jibo also revealed that Zubairu Sulaiman, a Registrar at the Upper Sharia Court, was implicated in the case. Sulaiman was found to have received ₦1 million as a sales commission from the illicit sale of the two plots of land. Based on the committee’s recommendations, the Judicial Service Commission suspended Sulaiman for four months without pay.
“The Commission is determined to impose appropriate sanctions on any staff member found guilty of misconduct, especially those entrusted with judicial duties, in order to preserve the integrity of the Judiciary and maintain public trust,” Jibo emphasized.
Both Ibrahim and Sulaiman, he confirmed, are Registrars within the Shari’a Court Department.
