Kwankwaso’s Informatics Institute Closed by Ganduje Reopens by Gov. Yusuf

The Kano State government has reopened the Informatics Institute in Kura, welcoming 250 new students as academic activities resume. The institute, originally established 12 years ago by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had been shut down during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf made the announcement at a ceremony on Thursday in Kura, where he formally presented letters of admission to the new students. He emphasized that the resumption of academic activities would begin immediately and reaffirmed his commitment to reopening all educational institutions closed by the previous administration.

The Informatics Institute was created to equip young people with information technology skills, providing them with the tools to meet the demands of modern communication technology. “This moment is significant because we are deeply concerned about the state of education and the role of information technology in Kano. Many graduates of this institute have gone on to achieve success in their careers, securing employment in various government agencies, private companies, and ministries, not just within Kano State but globally,” Kabir-Yusuf stated.

He also highlighted the institute’s importance in fostering a digital economy. “The reopening of this institute aligns with our administration’s broader vision to advance Kano’s digital economy. It has contributed significantly to the northern region’s IT landscape, enhancing students’ professional development and their impact on key economic sectors,” the governor added.

Kabir-Yusuf congratulated the institute’s staff and students and pledged continued support to ensure the school’s sustainable growth and development.
