Abia Announces October Start for New Minimum Wage Payments

The Abia State Government has announced that it will begin the payment of the new minimum wage starting in October. This was revealed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing on Monday. The briefing followed the weekly State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

According to Kanu, the payment of the new minimum wage will apply to all categories of workers in the state. This move is part of the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of its workforce.

In addition to this, the commissioner disclosed that the state government is set to commence the construction of 17 court halls, one in each of the 17 local government areas of the state. This initiative is aimed at strengthening the administration of justice in Abia.

Kanu also revealed that the Ministry of Health will be organizing a free medical outreach in Ugwunnagbo next week. The program will offer free medical consultations, maternal and child healthcare services, as well as free diagnostic tests.

In another development, the state government is set to honor its para-athletes who have brought recognition to Abia. Among them are Miss Onyinyechi Mark, who won a gold medal in the 61 kg category, and Miss Esther Nworgu, who secured a silver medal in the 41 kg category. Governor Otti plans to host these athletes as part of his administration’s effort to encourage sports development in the state.
