JUST IN: FG Approves Revision of Consolidated Salary Structure

The Federal Government has officially approved a revision of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), with the new structure set to take effect from July 24, 2024.

This announcement was made by Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. According to Mr. Nta, President Bola Tinubu signed off on the revision after the National Assembly forwarded the bill for approval.

He emphasized that any federal public service body, whether self-funded or treasury-funded, which has not yet received an official circular from the NSIWC, should promptly contact the Commission for further instructions. This step is crucial to prevent disjointed implementation, which could disrupt the salary structure across the federal public service.

“This is to avoid uncoordinated implementation, which may undermine the existing salary relativities within the federal public service,” Mr. Nta stated.

He further explained that the NSIWC would provide additional guidelines on how the new salary structure would apply to pensioners, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, and interns.

In addition to the revision of the CONPSS, Mr. Nta highlighted other salary templates that were also revised. These include:

  • Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS)
  • Consolidated Universities Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS)
  • Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II)
  • Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS)
  • Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS)
  • Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS)
  • Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS)
  • Consolidated Para-Military Salary Structure (CONPASS)
  • Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS)
  • Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICSS)
  • Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS)

Mr. Nta clarified that the revisions stem from the enactment of the NSIWC Amendment Act of 2024, and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached by the committee responsible for consequential salary adjustments following the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

The MoU, signed on September 20, 2024, was an agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the trade unions representing the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.
