Matawalle Defends Tenure: ‘I Never Embezzled Zamfara’s Resources

In a heated interview on Channels TV, former Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle vehemently rejected allegations of financial mismanagement during his time in office. Addressing the growing public scrutiny, Matawalle boldly stated, “I never embezzled Zamfara’s resources,” asserting his transparency in managing state funds.

Matawalle, who led Zamfara from 2019 to 2023, emphasized that he has meticulously documented every transaction during his administration. “I have a detailed account of everything I received and how those funds were spent,” he said, challenging his critics to review the state’s financial records.

The allegations have put Matawalle at the center of a political storm, with opponents questioning how state resources were allocated under his leadership. However, the former governor stood firm, insisting that his government prioritized development projects and social welfare initiatives despite the state’s security challenges.

Matawalle’s remarks have reignited a broader conversation on corruption and accountability in Nigeria’s political landscape. While his supporters praise his leadership and transparency, his critics demand further investigation into his administration’s financial dealings. The interview has left Nigerians divided, with many eagerly awaiting more disclosures that could either vindicate the former governor or further fuel the controversy surrounding his tenure.

As public interest intensifies, the unfolding saga highlights the enduring struggle for accountability and transparency in governance across Nigeria, with Matawalle’s legacy now hanging in the balance.
