BREAKING: EFCC Arrests Former Gov Ishaku Over Alleged ₦27 Billion Fraud

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Darius Ishaku, the former governor of Taraba State, in connection with an alleged ₦27 billion fraud.

Ishaku, who completed his two-term tenure as governor in 2023, was apprehended at his residence in Abuja during the early hours of Friday. Sources within the EFCC confirmed that the former governor remains in the commission’s custody as of Friday night.

According to reliable EFCC insiders, at least 15 charges have been filed against Ishaku, with an imminent court arraignment. Investigators claim to have gathered substantial evidence implicating the former governor in financial misconduct during his time in office.

“Yes, he is currently in our custody. We’ve been conducting a covert investigation since his tenure ended. There are numerous instances of financial malfeasance under his administration,” an EFCC source disclosed to *Weekend Trust*.

Another source revealed that Ishaku’s detention was prompted by his inability to provide satisfactory explanations for several financial discrepancies that occurred during his time in office.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details.

Ishaku’s arrest follows a recent wave of high-profile cases involving former state governors, including the ongoing investigation into former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, who is accused of embezzling ₦80.2 billion.
