Kano: 1,331 APC Members, Ganduje Allies Defect to Kwankwaso’s NNPP

….Vow to Oppose Ruling Party in 2027

No fewer than 1,331 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Thursday. The defectors, representing 11 wards within the local government, have vowed to work against the APC’s return as the ruling party in Kano State come 2027.

Among the high-profile defectors were Malam Kwa, a former vice chairman of the local government area, and Hon. Audu Tumfafi, a former state House of Assembly aspirant.

Receiving the new NNPP members, Hon. Hashimu Dungurawa, the State Chairman of the party, applauded their decision and reassured them of equal opportunities within the party. Dungurawa emphasized that under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP is dedicated to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Kano State.

He dismissed rumors of any mass defections from the NNPP to the APC, insisting that the NNPP remains in firm control of its political structure across the state’s wards.

“We’ve heard claims that an APC member is receiving defectors from the NNPP, but after checking our membership roll, we’ve not noticed any drop in our numbers,” Dungurawa remarked. “I advise them to be wary of those who might misuse public funds under the guise of hosting defectors.”

Speaking at the event, Malam Kwa criticized former governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, an indigene of the area, for neglecting Dawakin Tofa during his eight years in office. He also alleged that Ganduje’s poor management of the APC contributed to his failure to secure a seat in the House of Representatives during the 2023 general elections.

This defection adds another layer of complexity to the political landscape in Kano as the NNPP consolidates its influence in the state ahead of future elections.
