Mass Arrest: 89 Notorious Criminals Caught in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced significant progress in its fight against crime, with the arrest of 89 notorious criminals. This achievement was revealed during a press briefing held on Monday at the Command’s Bompal Police Headquarters.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, detailed the arrests. Among those apprehended were 15 suspects involved in armed robbery, 10 alleged drug dealers, and one individual linked to human trafficking.

In addition to the arrests, the police successfully rescued two victims of human trafficking and two individuals who had been kidnapped. The operation also led to the recovery of illicit drugs, dangerous weapons, and stolen items, including 538 bottles of Bacardi syrup and a significant quantity of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.

SP Kiyawa credited the command’s success to a combination of intelligence-led operations, strengthened community engagement, and 24-hour patrols. He added that 43 suspects have already been charged to court, while investigations continue on the remaining 46.

“The command is committed to fostering partnerships with the public, working closely with local communities and stakeholders to maintain peace and order,” Kiyawa said. “We’ve also collaborated with media outlets to raise public awareness on security measures.”

He emphasized that preparations are in place to ensure the safety of residents during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on October 1, 2024, and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, participate responsibly, and respect the rights of others.

In a somber note, the police extended their condolences to the families of five officers who lost their lives in a tragic motor accident on September 23, 2024, expressing gratitude for the support and prayers offered to the bereaved and injured.
