2027: Kwankwaso Unreliable, Ganduje Loyalist Warns Tinubu

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Dr. Musa Kwankwaso, has urged President Bola Tinubu to exercise caution in forming any alliance with Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

Dr. Kwankwaso, a former commissioner under the administration of ex-governor Abdullahi Ganduje, warned that any agreement with the former governor of Kano, Kwankwaso, must be conducted in the presence of key APC stakeholders from the state. He accused Kwankwaso of having a history of breaking political agreements.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, the APC chieftain stated, “It’s no secret that President Tinubu recently met with Kwankwaso to discuss a potential merger between his party and the ruling APC. However, these discussions should be approached with extreme caution.”

He added, “The President must ensure that APC leaders in Kano, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, House Majority Leader Alhassan Ado Doguwa, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Abubakar Bichi, Minister of State for Housing Tijjani Gwarzo, state APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and most importantly, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, are involved in these talks.”

Dr. Kwankwaso emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, saying, “I know Kwankwaso well; he has a tendency to betray agreements, even with high-level figures like the President. That’s why it’s crucial to have Kano APC leaders as witnesses to any negotiations.”

The former commissioner suggested that Kwankwaso stands to gain the most from any rumored alliance, as he is allegedly losing influence within the NNPP.

“President Tinubu should be aware that Kwankwaso’s hold on the NNPP is weakening. Many of his loyalists, including some elected officials from Nasarawa State, are defecting to the APC. Even in Kano, Kwankwaso’s traditional stronghold, the NNPP is losing relevance, with several supporters and key National Assembly members reportedly preparing to leave.”

According to Dr. Kwankwaso, the NNPP leader’s declining political fortunes are driving his willingness to negotiate with the APC. “As a seasoned politician, President Tinubu likely understands that Kwankwaso is becoming increasingly desperate. He is losing his grip on political power and is now seeking any position the APC government might offer him.”

Attempts to reach Kano State NNPP Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to multiple calls.
