Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has sharply criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that both parties have failed Nigerians. He accused the APC, led by President Bola Tinubu, of implementing policies that have deepened poverty and hunger across the country, while struggling to handle Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
Speaking at the 7th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP in Abuja, Kwankwaso didn’t hold back in his criticism of the PDP either, calling it a “dead party” due to internal crises and declining influence. He asserted that the NNPP is gaining ground and emerging as a viable alternative capable of addressing the needs of Nigerians.
“Our party has been doing exceptionally well, and despite internal and external challenges, the NNPP is now the fastest-growing party in Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said. He pointed to his past remarks during a visit to Katsina State where he declared the PDP to be in decline. “Now, people must agree with us that the party is imploding,” he added.
Kwankwaso further criticized the APC, stating that its leadership is out of touch with the realities faced by Nigerians. He emphasized the country’s growing problems, especially in terms of security, poverty, and hunger, and suggested that the APC is failing to address these concerns.
“While the APC leadership may believe they are doing well, Nigerians—especially voters—know otherwise,” Kwankwaso remarked.
Kwankwaso also praised the NNPP for its discipline and leadership, positioning the party as the best hope for Nigerians amid the struggles of its rivals.
Echoing Kwankwaso’s sentiments, NNPP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Engineer Buba Galadima, lauded the party’s rapid growth. “While other parties falter, the NNPP is attracting people in droves. Our discipline and adherence to rules have made us stand out,” Galadima said.
The party’s National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, also highlighted the NNPP’s strong membership drive and the recent launch of a new membership card. He urged members to remain loyal to the leadership and participate in the party’s efforts to build its base across the country. He also noted that the party had taken tough decisions, including dissolving state executive committees in Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe, Oyo, and Benue states, replacing them with caretaker committees to ensure the party’s stability and growth.
Both Kwankwaso and the party leadership expressed confidence that the NNPP is well-positioned to offer Nigerians a new path forward amidst growing dissatisfaction with both the APC and PDP.
