2027 Elections Not on My Mind At All, Says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has stated that he is not currently focused on the 2027 general elections but is instead committed to restructuring Nigeria’s economy for the benefit of its citizens.

This statement comes amid growing calls from prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his re-election. Among those expressing support for Tinubu’s potential 2027 bid were former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and several state governors, including Lagos State’s Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun’s Dapo Abiodun, Ondo’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Ekiti’s Biodun Oyebanji.

The remarks were made during the 2024 South West Assembly of the APC, held on Saturday at Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, hosted by Governor Sanwo-Olu in his role as Zonal Coordinator of the APC, gathered a large crowd of party leaders and stakeholders from the South-West, including senators, members of the House of Representatives, State Assembly members, local government officials, and other top party representatives.

Addressing the assembly, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, in his keynote speech, lauded Tinubu as a “listening leader” with a resolute determination to drive Nigeria toward success. Fayemi’s words came during the first major APC gathering in the South-West following Tinubu’s 2023 presidential victory.

Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, urged Nigerians to remain patient with his administration, assuring them that his focus is on genuine progress for the country. Other key issues concerning the development and future of the APC, particularly in the South-West region, were also discussed during the meeting.
