BREAKING: Pro-Wike Supporters Protest Ongoing Rivers LG Elections

Supporters of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, staged a protest on Saturday in Port Harcourt, urging the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to comply with a recent High Court ruling concerning the ongoing local government elections.

The protest, which attracted a large crowd, was organized in response to alleged irregularities in the electoral process. Wike’s supporters, carrying placards with messages such as “Obey Court Order” and “No Justice, No Election,” voiced their dissatisfaction with the conduct of the elections. They called for RSIEC to suspend the polls in accordance with the court’s decision.

A recent judgment by the Rivers State High Court reportedly ordered the suspension of the elections due to procedural flaws in their organization and scheduling. The court’s decision followed legal challenges that questioned the transparency of the process, prompting Wike’s faction to advocate for a postponement.

Despite the ruling, RSIEC proceeded with the elections, leading to the protests by Wike’s loyalists, who are demanding that the commission honor the court’s directive and halt the elections until the issues are resolved.
