Explosion Rocks Rivers APC Secretariat Hours Before LG Elections

An explosion has rocked the Rivers State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt, just hours before the Local Government elections. Suspected arsonists reportedly detonated explosives at the party office early Saturday morning, raising tensions ahead of the polls.

Video footage circulating on social media shows extensive damage to the APC secretariat, including its main gate, the security post, and parts of a neighboring building. The explosion is believed to have been caused by dynamites.

Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the Rivers APC, confirmed the incident to Journalists, alleging that supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara were behind the attack. Okocha stated, “In the early hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office. The second attempt to set the building ablaze was foiled by our security personnel, who quickly extinguished the fire.”

No casualties have been reported, but the attack has heightened concerns over potential violence surrounding the local elections in the state. Authorities have yet to make any official statements regarding the incident.
