Gombe Governor: Quality Education impossible Without Teachers Welfare

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has lauded teachers in the state and across Nigeria for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to shaping the next generation, emphasizing that quality education is unattainable without substantial investment in teachers’ well-being and professional development.

In a statement commemorating World Teachers’ Day, signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, Governor Yahaya recognized teachers not only as educators but as critical stakeholders in societal development.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” Yahaya highlighted the essential role teachers play in shaping the future of education. He stressed the importance of including their perspectives in policy-making, stating, “In a world that is constantly evolving, the input of teachers in shaping educational policies is crucial. This year’s theme is a call to recognize the importance of teachers and ensure their voices are heard in decision-making processes.”

Governor Yahaya also outlined his administration’s efforts to enhance the welfare of teachers in Gombe State, including the recruitment of new educators to address workforce shortages, the regular payment of salaries and entitlements, and the provision of training and capacity-building programs. Additionally, his government has focused on improving school infrastructure to create a more conducive working environment for teachers.

“Our administration is dedicated to ensuring that teachers in Gombe State are well-supported and motivated. We understand that quality education cannot be achieved without investing in the well-being and professional growth of our teachers. This is why we have consistently prioritized their welfare, from prompt salary payments to offering opportunities for career development,” Yahaya said.

The governor further emphasized his commitment to enhancing the overall learning environment in the state by revitalizing schools and providing modern teaching aids, all aimed at boosting performance and productivity within the education sector.

He underscored that these efforts align with the theme of the day, which calls for placing teachers at the heart of educational reforms. Yahaya urged all stakeholders to continue supporting educators and ensuring their voices are valued in shaping the future of education.

“On this special day, I extend warm wishes to the leadership of the Gombe State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and all teachers in the state for their hard work, patience, and dedication. Together, let us build a future where education is shaped by those who know it best—our teachers,” the governor concluded.
