Hardship: Tinubu Defends Tough Policies, Says Nigerians Will Thank Him Later

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning Nigeria and creating long-term prosperity, despite the current challenges. Speaking on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-West Zone Assembly held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Tinubu emphasized that his focus is on the future, not the upcoming 2027 elections.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the president acknowledged the difficult economic conditions caused by his policies but expressed confidence that Nigeria would emerge stronger. “The president wants me to convey that his focus is not on the next election, but on the next generation,” said Gbajabiamila. “He understands the hardship these tough decisions have caused but believes there is light at the end of the tunnel. There will come a time when Nigerians will appreciate these decisions.”

Tinubu explained that his actions are aimed at the long-term benefit of the country, noting that every era calls for a leader capable of making courageous choices. “The challenges facing our country are vast and complex, but when a leader has a strong conviction, he must pursue it. I have love for Nigerians, and I will continue to listen to their concerns and act in their best interest,” he added.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who chaired the South-West Governors’ Forum and hosted the event, urged party members to support the president’s administration fully. “We must strive to move forward together,” Sanwo-Olu said, calling for solidarity within the party.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized the need for unity within the APC in the South-West. “I am convinced that the APC will remain strong and committed to achieving the goals of the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda. We must protect the foundation that has made us successful,” Fayemi stated.

The event was attended by the governors of Ekiti, Ondo, and Ogun, alongside key political figures, including former APC interim national chairman Bisi Akande, and former Ogun State governors Olusegun Osoba and Ibikunle Amosun. Senators, representatives, state assembly members, and other top officials from the South-West also graced the occasion.
