Nigerian Army to Junior Officers: No Excuse for Failure

Kevin Aligbe, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, has delivered a firm message to junior officers: failure will not be tolerated in the upcoming promotion exams for captains. Aligbe made this clear during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE) on Monday in Akure.

Addressing over 200 captains from various formations across the country, Aligbe, who serves as the examination president, emphasized that the CMPPE is a critical step in the career advancement of army captains. The examination is a key requirement for selection to the Junior Staff Course, a program offered by staff colleges abroad.

Aligbe explained that the CMPPE is designed to assess the proficiency of captains and prepare them for leadership roles with greater responsibilities in the Nigerian Army. He stressed that success is attainable without resorting to dishonest methods, urging officers to approach the examination with seriousness and commitment.

“This is an examination you can pass without illegal or fraudulent means. I expect nothing less than 100 per cent success from every participant. There should be no excuse for failure,” Aligbe stated.

In his remarks, Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, praised the army headquarters for choosing his division to host the 2024 CMPPE. Onubogu assured that all necessary administrative, logistical, and security measures had been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.
