Insecurity: Bandits Kill Abducted Kebbi District Head

Bandits have reportedly killed the abducted district head of Kanya, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Isah Daya.

Daya was kidnapped along with nine other members of his community. His death was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday evening. According to Abubakar, Daya’s body was found in a forested area.

Earlier on Tuesday, security forces, including military troops, had successfully rescued the remaining abducted victims, except for the late district head.

Abubakar’s statement read: “Acting on credible intelligence and through the determination of a combined team of police officers, military personnel, and local vigilantes, eight victims of the October 6, 2024, kidnapping in Kanya District, Danko/Wasagu LGA, Kebbi State, were rescued unharmed on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, around 10:00 a.m. in Sakaba forest after an exchange of gunfire with the bandits.

“The rescued victims have been reunited with their families following medical treatment at General Hospital, Sakaba. Sadly, during the search and rescue operation, the body of the district head, Alhaji Isah Daya, was discovered in the forest.”

The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello Sani, extended his condolences to the Kebbi State Government, the Zuru Emirate, and the family of the late district head, praying for his soul to rest in Jannatul Firdaus.

The statement also called on the public to provide any information that could assist security agencies in apprehending those responsible for the tragic incident.
