The Edo Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has directed all intending pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj to make an initial deposit of ₦8.4 million, pending the final announcement from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Chairman of the board, Ibrahim Oyarekhua, issued the directive on Sunday during a press briefing in Benin. He emphasized the need for early deposits, citing Saudi Arabia’s recent policy change requiring payments to be made at least two months before Arafat Day.
Oyarekhua further explained that while the final Hajj fare is typically announced just two to three weeks before the deadline for payment, making an advance deposit would help pilgrims prepare and complete their payments on time.
“The board is actively sensitizing Muslim communities on the importance of making a deposit, even if the full ₦8.4 million cannot be paid initially,” Oyarekhua noted.
He also highlighted that last year, all pilgrims successfully received their visas prior to departure due to the new policy, encouraging intending pilgrims to deposit any amount into the board’s account to secure their place for the pilgrimage.
