Prof. Lugga Warns: North Should Prepare for Potential Separation

Professor Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazirin Katsina, has urged the northern region to unite and consider preparing for self-determination, following the example of southern secessionist movements.

Speaking at a community engagement organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Katsina, Prof. Lugga highlighted the ongoing calls for secession from the South and warned that the North must be ready for the possibility of separation from Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of solidarity among northerners to protect their rights, drawing a sharp contrast with the more cohesive southern movements, particularly the Biafrans.

Lugga noted that while the southern states have made strategic moves to address their security concerns—such as creating regional security outfits like Amotekun—the North has been slower to act. He urged northern leaders to take proactive measures to safeguard their region’s security and future.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s early history, Lugga underscored the concerns voiced by the nation’s founding leaders about the amalgamation of the North and South. He argued that the union has always been fragile and warned that if the South were to break away, the North might face significant challenges in sustaining itself without adequate preparation.

CNG’s National Coordinator, Jamilu Charanchi, echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for grassroots-driven solutions to Nigeria’s socioeconomic and security crises. He criticized the political elite for prioritizing electoral ambitions over the nation’s future and called on local communities to take ownership of their destinies through collective action.
