The Rivers State Government has approved a new minimum wage of ₦85,000 for civil servants in the state, a significant boost aimed at improving the welfare of its workforce.
The state’s Head of Service, George Nwaeke, made the announcement after a closed-door meeting involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labor leaders, and senior government officials. Nwaeke confirmed that Governor Fubara granted approval during the meeting, and the new wage structure will be implemented starting on October 18, 2024.
Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, commended the governor for fulfilling the expectations of Rivers State workers. He lauded Governor Fubara’s commitment to addressing the demands of the workforce.
In addition, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, stated that the wage increase would significantly ease the economic challenges faced by civil servants in the state.
