Fed Govt Sets December Deadline for Prospective Retirees’ Verification

The Federal Government has issued a December 31, 2024, deadline for civil servants due to retire in 2025 to complete their verification process or face the risk of losing their monthly pensions.

This directive was outlined in a letter from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), dated September 20, 2024, and addressed to all Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The letter states: “All employees set to retire in 2025, as well as those who have retired but missed previous online enrollment exercises, are required to visit their Pension Administrators (PAs) for the online verification enrollment exercise. The enrollment requires retirees/prospective retirees to provide their RSA PIN, NIN slip, full name, valid email address, first appointment offer, and record of service. Additionally, retirees must supply employment details for the years 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2023, and the current year, as applicable.”

The verification and enrollment process is scheduled to run from October 7, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

As of now, 7,348,028 workers, representing 10.58% of Nigeria’s total workforce, are registered under the National Pension Scheme. In the second quarter of 2024, PenCom reported paying ₦1.1 trillion to 129,435 life annuity applicants, highlighting a notable increase in pension disbursements.
