Zamfara: Former Reps Member Joins Local Government Chairman Race

Supporters of Kabiru Yahaya Classic, a former member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara, have come together to fund the purchase of a nomination form for him to contest the chairmanship of Talata Mafara Local Government.

According to the earlier report by The Spectacles, an emergency meeting was held on Wednesday at Classic’s residence, bringing together ward leaders and supporters from across the local government’s eleven constituencies. Despite the short notice, a significant number of attendees were present.

The meeting aimed to address growing concerns within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Talata Mafara, with Classic expressing frustration towards Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal. He accused the governor of neglecting his loyal supporters, many of whom played pivotal roles in Lawal’s 2023 election victory. Classic issued a one-week ultimatum for the governor to act, warning that the response would shape the future actions of himself and his political base.

Few days after the meeting, one of Classic’s political allies, Aliyu Muazu, revealed that supporters had raised funds to purchase the nomination form on his behalf, despite Classic’s initial reluctance to run. “He swore he wouldn’t contest, but we believed that decision went against the wishes of his supporters,” Muazu said. He further emphasized that the people of Talata Mafara largely support Classic and feel it would be wrong for him to stay out of the race.

With the nomination form now secured, all eyes are on Kabiru Classic to see how he responds and whether he will heed the call of his supporters to enter the local government race.
