Kano Governor Presents Staff of Office to Newly Appointed Emir of Rano

On Monday, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, formally presented the staff of office to Muhammad Umar, the newly appointed Emir of Rano.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Rano, Governor Kabir-Yusuf highlighted the vital role traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and stability in Kano. He praised the contributions of these institutions and urged the new emir to uphold his responsibilities as a leader without bias.

Governor Kabir-Yusuf called on the second-class emir to remain a father figure to all his subjects and prioritize education within his emirate. “I took the opportunity to encourage the royal father to lead by example, ensuring fairness and equity in his leadership. Emir Umar is known for his integrity, and I am confident that he will continue to lead the people of Rano with distinction and honour,” the governor stated.

He further expressed his belief that the new emir would faithfully adhere to the principles of his office and maintain a peaceful relationship with his subjects.

In his response, Emir Muhammad Umar pledged to be a just and impartial leader to everyone within his jurisdiction. He expressed gratitude to Governor Kabir-Yusuf and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for their efforts in driving meaningful projects and fostering peace in Kano State.

The emir also appealed to the governor to reassign the stalled five-kilometre road project in the area to a more capable contractor to expedite its completion. “The road is of great importance to the people of Rano, but unfortunately, the current contractor has been unable to handle it effectively,” he noted.

Additionally, Emir Umar raised concerns about the persistent water scarcity in Rano. He acknowledged previous government efforts to address the issue by tapping into water resources from Tiga, but suggested that a nearby mountain could serve as an alternative source to provide a sustainable water supply to the region.

The event marked a significant moment for the Rano Emirate as it transitions under new leadership.
