Kano Governor Set to Unvail New Minimum Wage Next Week

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants, as he received the much-anticipated report from the state’s advisory committee on a revised minimum wage.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa.

The committee, chaired by Usman Bala, the Governor’s Special Adviser on State Affairs, was mandated to review and propose enhancements to the state’s minimum wage structure.

Speaking at the presentation, Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in the committee’s diligent research and extensive consultations, noting that their recommendations would assist the government in formulating economically sound and sustainable policies.

“We selected this committee because we trust their capacity to deliver valuable insights and creative solutions for our path forward,” the governor said, according to the statement.

Yusuf reassured civil servants of his administration’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises, particularly on improving their welfare, and urged them to be patient as the government thoroughly evaluates the committee’s recommendations to ensure they comply with constitutional provisions.

He further noted that a final decision on the report would be made public next week.

In his remarks, committee chairman Usman Bala explained that the recommendations were made with careful consideration of Kano’s current economic realities. He expressed confidence that the proposed wage structure would be both sustainable and beneficial, positively impacting the financial well-being of civil servants in the state.
