Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has officially welcomed 29 students who were sponsored by the state for postgraduate studies in India. The students, part of a larger initiative aimed at empowering Kano’s youth through advanced education, returned to Kano to a warm reception.
Accompanied by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Yusuf greeted the students at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, reaffirming the state’s commitment to education and human capital development. The initiative is part of Kano State’s broader effort to sponsor 1,001 students for postgraduate studies, both within Nigeria and abroad.
In a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawkin Tofa, Governor Yusuf commended the students for their determination and academic achievements, noting that their success reflects the potential of Kano’s youth. “Your success is a testament to the potential that exists within Kano’s youth, and it is our responsibility to ensure that more talented individuals are given the same opportunities,” he said.
In line with this vision, Governor Yusuf also announced the opening of a fresh round of applications for the 2024/2025 academic session under the “1,001 Postgraduate Scholarship Programme.” The new phase will offer more students the chance to pursue postgraduate studies at both private and public universities, locally and internationally.
This recent group of graduates is the first cohort of the 1,001-student foreign scholarship program. Earlier this year, another group of beneficiaries returned from Uganda, with more expected to arrive in November and December.
The scholarship scheme is part of Governor Yusuf’s broader strategy to boost education, equip Kano’s youth with global skills, and enhance the state’s future development.
