PDP Governors Distance Themselves from Zamfara Court Case Amidst Party Crisis

In a swift move during the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) expanded meeting, the forum issued a formal disclaimer, distancing itself from a legal suit allegedly filed in Zamfara State against the party. The disclaimer followed widespread reports that the Chairman of the Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, or his associates, had initiated the legal action.

The statement, signed by the Director-General of the PDP-GF, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, was released in Abuja. Agbo clarified that neither Governor Mohammed nor any member of the Forum had any involvement with the said lawsuit.

Agbo stated, “The attention of the PDP Governors’ Forum, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, has been drawn to an online publication alleging that the Bauchi Governor filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Gusau, seeking an ex parte order to compel the convening of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. We wish to categorically state that Governor Mohammed and the Forum are not involved in such legal proceedings.”

The statement further urged PDP supporters and the public to disregard the false claims, calling them “dubious, malicious, and intended to smear the character of Governor Bala Mohammed.”

Reports had circulated that certain party members, allegedly acting on behalf of Governor Mohammed, had approached a Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, seeking an interim injunction to force the party to hold its scheduled NEC meeting on Thursday.

This development comes in the wake of the PDP Governors’ earlier call for party members with ongoing legal cases against the party to withdraw such actions to promote reconciliation.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja had recently ruled on a separate case brought by party members in Yobe State, home of the acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum. The court issued an order preventing the PDP’s NEC and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum from office until December 2025.
