Gov Lawal Constitutes Governing Councils For Six Zamfara Tertiary Institutions

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has taken a significant step to enhance the management of tertiary institutions and revitalize the educational sector in the state. He has approved the establishment of Governing Councils for six state-owned tertiary institutions, which will begin their work immediately.

This development follows the submission of reports by visitation panels set up by the Governor in November 2023 to assess the conditions of all state-owned tertiary institutions. The panels recommended the formation of Governing Councils to oversee each institution, which was adopted by the white paper committee.

The six institutions and their respective Governing Councils are:

  • Zamfara State University, Talata-Mafara: Chairman – Prof. Abubakar Aliyu Liman
  • Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara: Chairman – Prof. Shehu Ismaila Tsafe
  • College of Agricultural Science & Technology, Bakura: Chairman – Dr. Muhammad Bawa Gummi
  • College of Education, Maru: Chairman – Prof. Tukur Adamu
  • College of Nursing Sciences, Gusau: Chairman – Murtala Garba Tsafe
  • College of Health Science and Technology, Tsafe: Chairman – Prof. Ja’afaru Makau Kaura

Each council comprises esteemed members, including permanent secretaries, provosts, directors, and representatives from various ministries and organizations. Governor Lawal has charged the councils to work with dedication and integrity, ensuring effective policies and efficient resource utilization, aligning with his Rescue Agenda to elevate educational standards in Zamfara State’s institutions.
