The Local Government elections held on Saturday in Kano State have seen a notably low voter turnout, especially within Kano metropolis and nearby areas.
Our correspondent, monitoring the election, reported that delays marred the voting process in some polling centers due to the late arrival of election materials. In certain locations, including the History and Culture Bureau, voting had not commenced as of 10:44 a.m. due to logistical delays.
However, at the Tarauni Primary Health Centre polling station, voting began as scheduled across three polling units, yet turnout remained generally low. In contrast, at Gandun Albasa Special Primary School, where there are 21 polling units, a larger crowd of voters was observed, with many waiting in orderly queues to cast their ballots.
Many voters expressed relief over the peaceful conduct of the election, countering concerns that the polls might be marred by unrest. “Many people anticipated crises during the election, but thankfully, it’s been peaceful,” one voter commented.
Another resident noted satisfaction with the authorities’ enforcement of movement restrictions, contributing to the calm atmosphere.
Tajuddeen Uba, the presiding officer at polling unit 002 in Gandun Albasa, confirmed that voting commenced shortly after 8:00 a.m. and proceeded smoothly, with voters participating in an orderly manner.
