Gusau, October 27, 2024 – The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning held a town hall meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday. The initiative aims to enhance public engagement in the preparation of the 2025 state budget, opening doors for citizens to participate directly and voice their priorities in the budgeting process.
Held at the JB Secretariat in Gusau, the town hall introduced the concept of a “citizen budget,” a mechanism designed to foster transparency and accountability by detailing how public funds are allocated and spent. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from security agencies, traditional leaders, lawmakers, and community members, all committed to shaping a responsive and inclusive budget for the coming year.
The Honorable Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating: “Today, we came together at the JB Secretariat in Gusau with leaders and stakeholders from across Zamfara to shape a brighter future for our state. Hearing directly from our security agencies, traditional leaders, lawmakers, and community voices, we focused on building a budget that addresses the needs of every citizen.”
He expressed gratitude to all who participated, highlighting the shared commitment to laying “the foundation for a safer, healthier, and more prosperous Zamfara in 2025.”
The town hall marks a milestone in Zamfara’s efforts to incorporate community input into governance and budget-making, aligning state priorities with citizens’ needs and promoting transparency at all levels.
