Presidency Confirms No More Role for Betta Edu in Tinubu’s Cabinet

The presidency has firmly dismissed any chance of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Betta Edu, returning to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Edu, who was suspended on January 8 amid public backlash over an alleged ₦585 million scandal, had been the subject of speculation ahead of a recent cabinet reshuffle. Rumors suggested the suspended minister might be reinstated.

However, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified on Sunday that Edu’s position has been permanently filled by a new appointee from Plateau State.

“Betta Edu is gone,” Onanuga stated. “Her position has been taken by someone from Plateau State. As far as this government is concerned, there is no place for her in this cabinet.”

Onanuga also noted that while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has yet to release official findings, the president’s decision to replace Edu suggests the EFCC may have provided sufficient grounds for her suspension. He shared these comments in an interview with Channels TV.
