Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved a new minimum wage of ₦71,000 for state civil servants, set to take effect in November. This adjustment is expected to increase the state’s monthly salary obligations by approximately ₦6 billion for state workers and ₦7 billion for local government councils.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement via one of his verified social media accounts on Tuesday, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of workers and improving living standards.
“In line with our commitment to social justice and enhancing the standard of living for our workers, we have approved ₦71,000 as the new minimum wage in Kano State,” read the statement on his Facebook page.
He also highlighted the recent promotion of 20,737 teachers, which has added over ₦340 million to the monthly salary bill for educators.
Governor Yusuf praised the efforts of the state minimum wage implementation committee, acknowledging its dedication to executing the new wage policy efficiently.
