Kano Police Nab Notorious Thug in Anti-Violence Operation

The Kano State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its crackdown on criminal activities, arresting a notorious thug identified as Inuwa Zakari, popularly known as “Gundura,” along with 14 accomplices. The arrest marks a key step in the ongoing fight against thuggery in the state.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the arrest was confirmed through a press statement released on Tuesday in Kano. Gundura, 24, was wanted for allegedly terrorizing residents and has been linked to a violent assault on a Vigilance Group Commander. This attack reportedly left the Commander with life-threatening injuries and resulted in damage to a police vehicle.

The arrests were part of clearance operations carried out between October 25 and 27, 2024, following orders from Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, who directed a robust response to the growing issue of thuggery.

In a firm message to criminals, the police reiterated that violent activities will not be tolerated, emphasizing their commitment to restoring peace and security. The suspects are currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, where they are undergoing investigations. Once concluded, they will face charges in court.

Commissioner Garba expressed gratitude for the public’s ongoing support and encouraged citizens to continue assisting the police by reporting suspicious activities. He noted, “This isn’t the first time the Kano State Police Command has taken decisive action against criminal activity.”

Earlier this year, in August 2024, the Command arrested 269 suspects for looting during a protest, reflecting a sustained effort to curb unrest and violence in Kano.

For prompt assistance in reporting criminal or suspicious activities, residents can contact the police through emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
