Electricity Supply: TCN Restores Bulk Power to Seven Northern States

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced late Wednesday that it has successfully restored bulk power supply to seven northern states via the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1. This follows the completion of repairs on the line, which had been disrupted by vandalism.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed that repair work on the line concluded at 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday. She noted that with the restoration of this line, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is also back online, enabling bulk power transmission to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe.

Mbah further added, “As restoration efforts continue, our engineering team is preparing to commence repairs on the second 330kV transmission line. All necessary materials are on-site, and work will start as soon as the area is secured for personnel safety in the affected sections of the vandalized line.”

Meanwhile, teams of TCN linesmen will re-patrol the 330kV line 2 to ensure no additional sections are compromised as repairs proceed.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of affected residents as our engineers work tirelessly to restore full service on the 330kV transmission line 2. TCN recognizes the critical role of electricity and remains committed to swiftly restoring and stabilizing power to all impacted regions,” Mbah said.

Fifteen northern states had previously experienced power outages after bandit attacks on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines and vandalism of the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission lines.
