In his move to support the welfare of civil servants, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved a new minimum wage of ₦72,000, effective from November 2024. This decision, according to the administration, underscores Governor Sani’s dedication to improving the lives of workers and addressing the needs of the state’s vulnerable populations.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Ibraheem Musa, released a statement affirming that the increase aligns with the governor’s commitment to “advancing workers’ interests and enhancing the quality of life for the underserved in Kaduna State.” The statement also emphasized Governor Sani’s longstanding dedication to promoting and safeguarding workers’ rights, improving welfare, and supporting the poor and disadvantaged.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Sani is set to introduce a Free Transportation Scheme for civil servants, which will be supported by 100 newly deployed CNG buses. These buses are intended to provide free, reliable transport for civil servants commuting to and from work, helping alleviate transportation challenges and boosting productivity.
To ensure the scheme’s effective management, a Joint Management Committee will be established, comprising representatives from organized labor (NLC and TUC) and the Kaduna State Government.
Governor Sani reiterated his commitment to policies that uplift citizens, stating, “The Kaduna State Government will continue to design and implement initiatives that bring relief to our people. Our dedication to improving the lives of the less privileged is unwavering. With ongoing support from our citizens, we aim to make Kaduna State a model for social welfare interventions.”
