BREAKING: Borno Begins Payment of ₦77,000 Minimum Wage to Civil Servants

The Borno State Government has commenced payment of October salaries to civil servants at the revised minimum wage of ₦77,000, marking a significant step toward implementing the new national wage standard. The salary adjustment took effect today, fulfilling Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s earlier commitment to enhance the welfare of state employees.

Last month, The Spectacles reported that Governor Zulum directed the immediate implementation of the new wage during a meeting with the state’s minimum wage implementation committee. The meeting, held at the Government House in Maiduguri, underscored the governor’s focus on economic relief for public sector workers amid rising inflation and living costs across the nation.

In addition to wage increases, Governor Zulum approved a ₦3 billion package to support the families of deceased civil servants, aiming to alleviate financial pressures for bereaved families. During a symbolic event, a cheque presentation was made to representatives of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, signaling the state’s dedication to honoring the contributions of its late employees.

Governor Zulum further pledged to clear outstanding gratuities for retirees and announced plans to boost monthly pension payments, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to ensuring long-term support for both current and retired civil servants in Borno State.
