Senator Condemns Detention of Minors in End Bad Governance Protests

Senator Sani Musa (APC Niger East) has expressed strong condemnation over the detention of minors allegedly involved in recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria, describing the situation as “inhumane and unjust.”

Several underaged protesters detained by police since August reportedly collapsed on Friday in the Federal High Court in Abuja. The incident occurred as the minors were brought in from various detention centers, including the Intelligence Response Team unit.

In a statement issued to journalists, Senator Musa denounced the treatment of the minors. “I strongly condemn the unjust detention of minors following the #EndBadGovernance protests,” he said. “I am deeply troubled that, in spite of the hardships and challenges these young children have endured, there is a push to have them imprisoned rather than afforded compassion and understanding. Such actions are not only inhumane but also unjust.”

The senator further criticized the judicial stance that advocates for the prolonged detention of these minors, labeling it unacceptable and contrary to principles of justice and fairness.

Senator Musa called on the Inspector General of Police to initiate an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the minors’ detention. He emphasized the need for accountability and the protection of young citizens’ rights, urging prompt action.

“This issue must be addressed urgently,” he added, pledging to continue supporting his constituents and all Nigerians in their quest for justice and good governance.
