President Bola Tinubu has nominated Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, a seasoned lawyer, as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing Ondo State.
The announcement was made on Monday night in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
“If confirmed by the Senate, Ibiyemi will succeed the late ‘Niyi Ijalaye, also a lawyer, who passed away in August while serving as the REC in Ogun State,” the statement read.
Ibiyemi, 58, hails from Ilaje in Ondo State and currently serves as the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos State. A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (1987), she was called to the bar in 1988. She also holds a Master’s degree in Election Management from Bingham University, Nasarawa.
Additionally, President Tinubu nominated Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur as a National Commissioner for INEC, representing the North West. Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics from Bradford University in England, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University, also in England.
Tukur began his career at INEC in 1999 as an assistant chief administrative officer, eventually rising to the position of Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, where he served until December 2023. He, too, will require Senate confirmation to assume the new role.
