Vice President Kashim Shettima has handed over 71 minors, recently discharged and acquitted by a Federal High Court in Abuja, to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf. The minors, detained following their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest in August 2024, have now returned to Kano via Max Air.
In a statement from his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed deep gratitude to human rights lawyer Femi Falana and others who advocated for the minors’ release.
“The Federal Government has withdrawn the treason charges against the minors, who primarily hail from Kano State,” Governor Yusuf stated, lauding the decision as a victory for justice and human dignity.
One of the minors’ legal representatives, Mr. Suleiman Dantsoho, praised Governor Yusuf’s commitment to human rights. “We commend Governor Abba Yusuf for his unwavering support and dedication to the dignity of his people,” Dantsoho noted, emphasizing the Governor’s pivotal role in securing the teenagers’ freedom.
