I Wasn’t Aware of Minors’ Arrested in Kano Protest Until Court Arraignment – Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed on Tuesday that he was unaware of the arrest of minors involved in the recent hunger protest until their arraignment in the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court. Governor Yusuf made this known during a visit to the Muhammadu Buhari Special Hospital, where a team of medical professionals assessed the physical and mental health of the 76 minors who were released.

“On learning of the matter, I promptly directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to take charge of the case,” he stated. The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his intervention, acknowledging the president’s compassionate response in helping to secure the children’s release.

Governor Yusuf also commended the parents of the affected children for their resilience and prayers, describing their conduct as “admirable” throughout the ordeal. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to reuniting the children with their families and providing necessary support to help them pursue education and small-scale business opportunities.

Furthermore, the governor highlighted the importance of education, assuring that the state government would work to reintegrate the minors by enrolling them in schools and offering opportunities for rehabilitation and personal development. “I will ensure these children get a second chance at a normal life by enrolling them in local schools and providing pathways for growth,” he said, underscoring his belief that the minors’ actions, though unfortunate, should not define their futures.
