Taiwan Unveils Electric Vehicles to Promote Green Mobility in Nigeria

In a bid to support Nigeria’s efforts toward a carbon-free environment, Taiwan has introduced electric motorbikes to the country. The Chief Missioner of Taiwan in Nigeria, Andy Yih-Ping Liu, unveiled the innovation during a green mobility summit themed “Driving a Greener Tomorrow with Sustainable 2-Wheeler Mobility,” held in Lagos on Thursday.

Liu emphasized that the initiative reflects Taiwan’s commitment to showcasing its technological advancements while empowering African nations, including Nigeria, through sustainable technology.

“Today is not just about promoting trade or investment opportunities; it’s about what Taiwan can contribute to the world,” Liu said. “We’re introducing Nigeria to the most advanced technology in e-mobility. With e-mobility, electricity integrates seamlessly into daily life, offering solutions that are noise-free and pollution-free compared to petrol-powered motorcycles.”

He further highlighted that Taiwan’s electric motorbikes, spearheaded by KYMCO, could help address environmental challenges, particularly in nations like Nigeria, where electricity infrastructure presents both challenges and opportunities.

Partnering for Decarbonisation

Handshin, a co-founder of AaraGo, a company providing battery solutions for electric vehicles, called for accelerated efforts to transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. He stressed the urgency of addressing climate change, citing the increasing frequency of natural disasters like floods globally and in Nigeria.

“As Taiwan faces natural disasters such as floods, we see similar impacts in Europe, Africa, and Nigeria. This highlights the reality of climate change,” Handshin remarked. “Decarbonisation is a key pillar of our plans. AaraGo aims to gather the best components globally and bring them to Nigeria to accelerate the energy transition.”

This collaboration underscores the shared commitment between Taiwan and Nigeria to adopt sustainable energy solutions, paving the way for a greener future.
